Building Capacities of Primary Producers
The project aims to build the capacities of primary producers with regards to good agricultural practices (GAP), new tomato varieties, mechanized harvesting and specialized trucking, value-addition operations at field level and better market linkages.
To reach out to primary producers and ensure an efficient and sustainable transfer of knowledge and skills, the project will directly work with both agricultural cooperatives/farmers associations as well as processing factory suppliers/traders.
The capacity building interventions shall be tailored to the specific needs identified by the agricultural cooperatives/farmer’s associations and in close consultation with the shortcomings highlighted by the processing sector. A market driven approach will be implemented highlighting the economic benefits of adopting new practices and technologies.
The project shall utilize existing experiences in the market and exchange information and know-how in this regard. Partnerships shall be sought with academia, R & D institutes, and other relevant technical entities.
